Have you ever had that moment when you "found your magic"? That moment of enlightenment when you found the answer to a nagging question or problem? If that nagging problem is body ache due to stress or injury, Pilates may help you find your magic. It certainly helped me!

Pilates is a mind-body exercise that doesn't place any stress or strain on the body. It lengthens and strengthens the spine. It tones and elongates the muscles while improving the posture without adding bulk. Pilates' principles help promote awareness, ease of movement and gently replaces old habits with healthier ones.

  • Expert Instruction taught by a Master Instructor
  • Working from the inside out to achieve a better sense of being
  • We believe that movement is process oriented that changes with time
  • With our holistic and organic approach we create a step by step process to move with ease and control
  • To work the body consciously to create a better understanding of functional movement and how they affect the body in the everyday

I first discovered Pilates while I was dancing with the Toronto Dance Theater.

I had a lot of aches and pains and, most of all, sciatica. I understood movement in the form of proper placement, but not in the form of proper placement using the correct muscles. As a result, I was in and out of the chiropractor's office on a daily basis. I often asked my chiropractor, ”What can I do to help my body so that I do not always need to come and see you?” His answer was, "You're already doing it." I was not very happy with the answer since it did not make any sense as to why I was always in need of a treatment. What I later discovered, was that I needed to understand which muscles I used to flex, extend and rotate my body and its function. Then somebody introduced me to Pilates and, within my first session, I was hooked.

For the first time, everything made sense and, with daily practice, my body started to respond. What I thought were simple exercises, turned out to be extremely challenging. I started to feel my body lengthen and strengthen. I noticed a tone and elongation that I never had before. I became even more mindful of the way I used my body and my posture was much improved — if you can believe that a dancer could improve her posture, it happened! My sciatica was a hundred times better and I no longer needed to see the chiropractor.

I was happier than I had been in a long time. I was elated and felt like my new found information about my body, through Pilates, had given me 10 more years to continue my dream as a professional dancer. Pilates gave me more than my life back, it allowed me to move with ease and control. I had flexibility and was not concerned with getting injured. There was less stress and hardly any strain on my body and, with my new found strength, I did not add any muscle bulk that I did not want to.

I soon wanted to do and learn more, so I became fully certified as an Instructor Trainer and then an Instructor Teacher Trainer.

A few years after my certification, flying high with my newfound knowledge, I suffered a very serious back injury. During one of the Dance Theatre's rehearsals, I accidentally slipped out of my partners hands and landed on a straight leg. Because my knee did not bend to absorb some of the shock, the full impact on my spine ruptured one disc and herniated another. I was devastated. My life as a dancer was over.

After a year or so of rehab and very little recovery, I became fed up. I was told by my surgeon at the time, that there was nothing they could do to repair the damage, so I took matters into my own hands and went on to study back injuries. I wanted to understand how our bodies heal and how, after a broken foot or strained muscle, we could find our way back to “normal”. I was determined to find something that made sense to me. I spoke to other Professional dancers who had suffered back injuries, even the ones who had had their discs fused. After much research and many workshops, I began working with a very good friend who really taught me to understand the magic of pilates. With his guidance, I found myself back on track and finally understood how Pilates helps to heal from the inside out.

Pilates changed my life. Within 6 months of working with the micro-macro movement of Pilates, I was actually back on stage, running and jumping and stronger than ever. I knew then that I had found my calling and, it was not dance, it was teaching others the magic of Pilates.

To me Pilates is a pure miracle. The very best kept secret. Knowing that I make a difference into many lives, is the best gift I have been given . I love sharing the infinite benefits of Pilates — among them being the power and flow, the precision and control that allows for an organic change within the human body and to witness this is forever humbling.

At present my world has opened up even more with the new, revolutionary, hybrid of Pilates called Garuda. “Where Pilates ends, Garuda Begins”. I am really excited to introduce Garuda to Canada.
